When
working with the Workforce Development Consortium (WDC), you will deal directly with a knowledgeable
staff member who will quickly ascertain your needs and match your
requirements to one or more individuals. WDC on- the-job-training
programs enable you to cut your cost of training new employees.
The WDC pre-tests and pre-screens all applicants, and then you select
the person you believe is best suited to your particular job description.
You can train the employee at your place of business the way you
want him or her trained. You will be reimbursed for half of the
job training directly by the WDC, eliminating any necessity for
dealing with the government.
Although
the WDC recruits, screens, refers and helps train your job applicants,
you still make final decisions on hiring and firing. Like selecting
any other job applicants, you will continue to choose those you
consider best qualified and dismiss any employee for due cause at
your discretion. You pay the wage to the employee, but the WDC pays
you for the training.

The NYS Department of Labor - Strategic Training Program (STRAP) is designed to
assist the employer in identifying skilled worker shortages and addressing employer
demands for skilled workers within an industry or within a single employer's
establishment. Businesses must identify the need for training, the type of training
it wishes to offer an incumbent worker and the number of individuals to be trained.
